We are proud to introduce Lisa Anderson, one of our Artistic Associates!!!

Lisa Anderson is originally from California and moved to New York to attend Brooklyn College, where she received her BFA in Acting. In New York, she has acted in numerous productions includingThe Coming World by Christopher Shinn (Stable Cable Lab Co.), No One Is Excused from the Trouble of Living by Julia May Jonas (Columbia University), The Children’s Hour(Compassion Theater Co.), Much Ado About Nothing (Theater Smarts), and several others. Lisa was a member of the Hangar Theater Lab Co. in 2010 where she performed in the premiere of Jeff Tabnick’s The Idiot, as well as two children’s show for the Hangar Kidstuff summer series. Lisa is currently devising a new play with Stable Cable Lab Co.

With Barefoot Theatre Company, Lisa has acted in several staged readings including West Asheville by Tim Plaehn, Balm in Gilead by Lanford Wilson (Darlene), Waiting for “Waiting for Godot” by Mike Reiss, and The Beginning and the End by Kristin Wheeler. She was an acting instructor for Barefoot Theatre Kids and has participated in many of the director’s labs. Since graduating from Brooklyn College, Barefoot has felt like a family to Lisa and she looks forward to continuing to be a part of their endeavors.

Meet Cristina Pitter, one of our newest Artistic Associates that we are excited to be working with!

CRISTINA PITTER

A native New Yorker, Cristina is a graduate of Suffolk County Community College's Theatre Arts Program, and will be graduating this year with a BFA in Acting from CUNY Brooklyn College. For the past two years she has performed in Gi60: International One Minute Play Festival playing multiple roles and also played Rust in Barefoot's staged reading of Balm in Gilead. Along with acting, Cristina is also an avid dancer, singer, writer and theatrical make-up artist. Cristina is blessed and honored to explore and grow as an artist with the wonderful family at Barefoot.

RESIDENT PLAYWRIGHT, Trish Harnetiaux

We are THRILLED to introduce another one of our RESIDENT Playwrights:

Trish Harnetiaux is a Brooklyn based playwright whose work has been performed and developed in New York at Dixon Place, The 13th Street Theatre, 78th Street Theatre Lab, The Ohio Theatre, Metropolitan Playhouse, The Samuel French Festival, and The New Jersey Rep.

She has been a recipient of the Himan Brown Creative Writing Award, and a finalist for the Kesselring Prize, the Heideman Award and the 2011 SLS Fiction Fellowship. Publications include: Straight On Til Morning (Broadway Play Publishing), The Dorsal Striatum (Post Road Magazine), A Gopher in the Ninth Ward(The Brooklyn Review), and The Drill (The Brooklyn Review). Her work has been included in Best Stage Monologues for Men (Smith & Kraus) and Best Stage Scenes 2007 (Smith & Kraus). She has been a two-time fellow at both the MacDowell Colony and The Corporation of Yaddo.

Full-length plays include YOUR PRETTY LITTLE WORLD, adapted from Shirley Jackson’s novel, The Bird’s Nest, Welcome to the White Room, and That Little Hand On Your Face. She is currently developing Mr. Bungle and the Incident on Lambdamoo based on an a disturbing online incident that occurred in 1993. She writes regularly about theatre for The Brooklyn Rail, is a speechwriter for live events.

In 2008, Harnetiaux received her MFA from Mac Wellman’s playwriting program at Brooklyn College and currently, she is a member of the 2011/2012 Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab where she is writing her new play, a unconventional love story, titled The Convention. She recently co-wrote/co-directed the short film, You Should Be A Better Friend and is a founding member of the production company Steel Drum in Space. Minna Taylor is an actress living and working out of New York City. She earned her BFA from NYU Tisch in association with The Atlantic Theater Company and was awarded her MFA from Brooklyn College. Minna has appeared in film, theater, and the occasional commercial. Most recently she participated in the LAByrinth Theater Company Ensemble Workshop, which resulted in the development of an ambitious theater collective. The goal of which is producing self-generated new work. Along with fellow Barefoot member, Samantha Fontana, she co-founded a short film production company, S&M. Welcome Eric Vigdorov! We're thrilled to announce yet another of our handful of Artistic Associates.

ERIC VIGDOROV- Eric is a native New Yorker, born and raised in Brooklyn. Ever since he was a child, Eric wanted to be an actor. As his career began to develop he found many avenues for his art. He is now finishing up his final credits at CUNY Brooklyn College where we will receive a B.F.A in Acting. Eric was most recently seen performing at the Cherry Lane Theatre during Barefoot Theatre Company’s Stripp3d Festival, where he played the role of office worker in Kristoffer Diaz’s F**king Vigwan (Or Swag). Other credits in New York include Reefer Madness, Dorothy in Oz both produced by Adam Roebuck Productions and BEAST which was featured in The Figment Festival. Eric would like to thank Frank Solorzano and the rest of the Barefoot Theatre Company family for helping him grow and work on his craft, and his wonderful family for their love.

Barefoot experience blurb:

I first heard of the Barefoot Theatre Company when I was a sophomore at Brooklyn College studying in the B.F.A Acting program. A professor of mine had told me that this company was changing the land scape of the New York Theater world. The best part about that, is when I found out the company started from former graduates of the BFA and MFA programs at Brooklyn College. I knew that I had to be apart of them. After speaking to Frank Solorzano I instantly fell in love with his drive and passion for theater. I asked him if there was anyway that I could help the company, and he told me to show up, volunteer and support. Which I did regularly until Frank contacted me to be a Associate Producer on the Stripp3d Festival this past Fall.

Working with the Barefoot Theatre Company has been one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had in my life. Barefoot is more then just a theatre company - it is a real family. Every time I attend a rehearsal, a meeting, and talk to other members, I feel the warmth and welcome. Every person who is involved with the company has a true passion for the art of theatre. I seemed to have landed myself in a place where I was free to share my ideas and offer a contributing hand. I am forever grateful to the kindness of this family, and very excited to be working as an Artistic Associate for the rest of the 2011-2012 season!

RESIDENT PLAYWRIGHT, Jason Furlani

We are proud to introduce and give you a closer look at one of our Resident Playwrights, JASON FURLANI! Furlani's play, A Long Hard Rain was featured in our 2nd annual bareNaked Reading Series under the direction of Co-Artistic Director, Nicole Haran in the fall of 2010 at the Cherry Lane Theatre.

JASON FURLANI

A native of Schenectady, NY, Jason has asserted himself as a veteran in the New York theatre world, having had successful productions of his work with various companies and on numerous stages in NYC. Currently a Playwright In Residence with Barefoot Theatre Company (whose home stage is the world famous Cherry Lane Theatre) Jason is developing his full length play, A LONG HARD RAIN, for an eventual World Premiere. Prior to his tenure with Barefoot, Jason was in residence with the Blue Collar Theater Company, who presented his full-length comedy, THE BIG VIG, at the Bank Street Theatre, and, his full-length play LEADED at the West End Theatre, as well as, his ten minute play SUSAN IS A PINHEAD, which had its debut as part of the Blue Collar “Shorts” Festival. Other companies/stages that have featured Jason’s work include: Zena Group, the Kraine Theatre, and The 42^nd Street Workshop. His most recent completed work, FAMILY TREES, was developed as part of his membership in the Actors Studio Playwright/Director’s Workshop (Carlin Glynn, Director.) Along with Jason’s work in the theatre, his screenplay, REXFORD ALL-STARS, was a Second Round Selection of the 2011 Austin Film Festival’s Screenwriting Competition, and, Jason also wrote the script for both of the Families of Freedom fundraising events (a 9/11 charity) hosted in successive order by Chevy Chase and Carol Kane.

Currently working on future projects but in the meantime, here's more on our ARTISTIC ASSOCIATES!!! We are thrilled to have Ensemble Member, Jennie West work a little closer with programming of our current and future seasons.

JENNIE WEST started performing at a very young age most notably singing private audience for former first lady Bess Wallace Truman. She has honed her craft at such institutions as The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and The New School. Her work, based in the Meisner Technique, won her the Best Performance Award at the Dusty Film Festival for her leading role in Resonance and distinction as a "standout" in stage productions. Jennie began working with Barefoot Theatre Company on their production of Balm in Gilead as "Babe".

Other roles include "Alma Weinmiller" in Eccentricities of A Nightingale, ensemble work in various exciting original works curated by Mabou Mines and the Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre. Most recently, Jennie performed in Dramatic Question Theatre’s Bar Play Series as the lead in Pink Bunny Slippers and DoubleStoly , Ensemble player in Dialogue with Three Chords podcast production of The Krampus and Barefoot Theatre Company’s workshop production as “Quellz” inFucking Vigwan by Kristoffer Diaz.

Jennie is truly grateful to be working with Barefoot Theatre Company.

Barefoot has given her an unparalleled opportunity to grow and explore her craft, work with masterful playwrights and participate in other valuable aspects of production while supporting a valuable mission. She has found a home with an amazing group of dedicated, talented and risk taking artists.

Gillian Rougier:

is proud to have worked with The Barefoot Theatre Company this past fall! She played The Temp in the workshop production of Kristoffer Diaz’s “Fucking Vigwan” or “Swag.” She was privileged to play Nairobi in the premiere revised edition of Joe Pintauro’s“Raft of the Medusa.” She also did a staged reading with the company of Balm in Gilead. She was recently named Artistic Associate and looks forward to working with the company in this capacity. She holds a BFA in Acting from Brooklyn College (CUNY.) She was born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago.

John Harlacher (Co-director,) is an actor and director. Recent acting work includes the indie feature Love Simple, directed by Mark von Sternberg; Off-Broadway’s Dog Day Afternoon, adapted by Francisco Solorzano; and the revival of Israel Horovitz’sRats. Both stage productions were produced by The Barefoot Theatre Company, of which he is a member. Directing work includes Cats Can See The Devil,written by Tom X. Chao; the Miami version of Nightmare: Ghost Stories, created by Timothy Haskell and the feature film Urchin, which he also wrote. Released theatrically and distributed worldwide, Urchin was banned in Malaysia as a “threat to culture.”

Now, we embark on journey that takes this play and its development one step further...we present F**KING VIGWAN (OR SWAG) as a workshop for 5 performances only at the legendary CHERRY LANE THEATRE next week.

KRISTOFFER DIAZ: Full-length titles include The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity, Welcome to Arroyo’s, Guernica, and The Revolution. Awards: New York Times Outstanding Playwright Award; Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Play; Village Voice Obie Award for Best New American Play; the inaugural Gail Merrifield Papp Fellowship from the Public Theater; finalist for the 2010 Pulitzer Prize in Drama. Current commissions include The Public Theater, Dallas Theater Center, Center Theatre Group, The Goodman, and Oregon Shakespeare Festival. He is a playwright-in-residence at Teatro Vista; a resident playwright and Van Lier Fellowship coordinator at New Dramatists; a co-founder of the Unit Collective (Minneapolis); and a recipient of the Jerome Fellowship, the Future Aesthetics Artist Regrant, and the Van Lier Fellowship. VERSE CHORUS VERSE by Randall Colburn receives its NY premiere this fall, having debuted this spring in Chicago at Tympanic Theater. VERSE CHORUS VERSE will preview October 26th prior to its official opening night October 29 and running through November 12.

Set 20 years after the death of Kurt Cobain -- the rock musician who wrote the song of the same name for the popular band Nirvana -- VERSE CHORUS VERSE follows Polly, the haunted subject of the Nirvana song, as she seeks out the young rock star who wants to prove Cobain's death was a murder.
Mr. Colburn's plays have been produced or developed at such theatres as Alliance, Public Theater, Victory Gardens, Stage Left and The Right Brain Project, which dedicated its 2010 season to his work. His plays include LAMP & MOTH, RAVISHMENT and BLESSED ASSURANCE. His HESPERIA is slated for production at Writers' Theatre next winter. He is a resident playwright at Chicago Dramatists and was named by Chicago Reader as "One to Watch."

Randall Colburn’s plays have been produced or developed at such theaters as the Alliance, the Public, Victory Gardens, CityLit, InFusion, Brain Surgeon Theater, Stage Left, and The Right Brain Project, who dedicated their 2010 season to his work. He is the recipient of a 2010 Individual Artist Grant from the Illinois Arts Council, as well as playwriting fellowships from Dad’s Garage Theatre and the Eugene O’Neill Playwrights Conference. His play Lamp & Moth was a finalist for the 2011 O’Neill National Playwrights Conference, the Alliance’s 2009 Kendeda Graduate Playwright Competition and the 2009 New York Summer Play Fest, and his short play Ravishment was part of the Northwest Playwrights Alliance’s 2008 British Arts Tour. He has been commissioned by Writers’ Theatre and InFusion Theatre and is an artistic associate with Brain Surgeon Theater. This spring he premiered his play Verse Chorus Verse with Tympanic Theater after developing the play at the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs’ Incubator Series, and will be developing his play Blessed Assurance in a residency at Stage Left Theater. His play Hesperia is slated for production at Writers’ Theatre next winter. He is a resident playwright at Chicago Dramatists, and was recently named by the Chicago Reader as “One to Watch.” A bad movie scholar, Randall was also featured in the hit documentary, Best Worst Movie. He received his MFA in Playwriting from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.

Ricardo Riethmuller is a director, performer, and producer. He is a founding member of East 3rd Productions. His directing credits include: NO EXIT (Fehomj Group), THE WIERD SISTERS (East 3rd Productions, Inc), 70/70 HOROVITZ PROJECT: HOROVITZ MARATHON (East 3rd Productions, Barefoot Theatre Company), A LASTING IMPRESSION (East 3rd Productions), and STRANGE SNOW (East 3rd Productions). He has also directed readings by playwright Zack Calhoon and has directed for aMios Theater Company’s SHOTZ.

Forbes March (Gerald Friend) March's first big acting role was Scott Chandler on the ABC daytime soap opera All My Children in 1999. Paired with new character Becca Tyree (Abigail Spencer), he was written off the series in 2000. March and Spencer soon worked together again on the 2001 independent film Campfire Stories. He next played Jesse Kilmartin on the Canadian science fiction series Mutant X from 2001 until the show's cancellation in 2004. In late July 2005, he returned to daytime television as Nash Brennan on ABC's One Life to Live from July 7, 2005 to June 5, 2008, and then briefly from June 6, 2008 to July 16, 2008. Lorraine Rodriguez-Reyes* (Polly, Managing Director, Producer) is an actress and producer. She received her MFA from the American Repertory Theatre/Moscow Art Theatre School at Harvard University and her BA in Theatre Arts from SUNY New Paltz. She has produced and performed in numerous films and plays. Production credits include: Associate Producer for “CAPICU” (Best Short at the Poconos Film Festival), Associate Producer for Rising Sun Falling Star (78th St Theatre Lab) and The Room (Howl Theatre Festival, NYC). As an actor she has appeared at Columbia Stages (Columbia University), Theatre Row Theatres, the A.R.T. and The Moscow Art Theater. Film: The Stick Up Kids and Willets Point. Ms. Rodriguez-Reyes has been seen on HBO’s The Sopranos, ABC’s Primetime Negligent Nanny, and the Discovery Learning Channel Cookin in Brooklyn. She joined East 3rd Productions in 2008 as Producer for their first main-stage show, The Weird Sisters, and has gone on to become Managing Director. She has produced all of East 3rd’s theatrical and cinematic productions as well as starring in the second main-stage production, A Bicycle Country, at Theatre Row Theatres. Lorraine is also a member of Barefoot Theatre Company. Many thanks to my wonderful husband Marc, our precious son Marcus Joaquin and The Rodriguez and Reyes Family for all your love and support! Kristy Powers (Moira Stanwyck) is happy to be making her debut with East 3rd Productions at the Cherry Lane Theatre. She completed her studies at American University, The British American Drama Academy in London, and Circle in the Square Theatre. She's also founding member of Rag N'Bone Theatre Company. Joshua Coomer* (Terry Krug) is a member of aMios Theatre Company and can be seen in LongShotz: Arrivals in December. Michael Mallard* (Mason Dwyer, Set Designer) is an actor, photographer, and designer. He received his MFA from the National Theater Conservatory, and his BFA from Texas State University. Most recently Michael portrayed the role of Megs in Stephen Metcalfe's STRANGE SNOW. He has performed with Arkansas Repertory Theater, The Denver Center, and toured with Romeo & Juliet as part of the NEA’s Shakespeare Across America Tour. He has acted in industrial films, commercials, and has recorded numerous voice-overs. During Michael’s three years at the National Theater Conservatory he had the opportunity to train in an array of movement and vocal studies including the Skinner releasing technique, the Fitzmaurice method, as well as low-flying trapeze. He has since joined East 3rd Productions as Creative Director and serves as a core creative member. In addition to being a member of East 3rd he is also active with aMios Theater Company and the Ensembull$h!t trapeze workshop.

Michael Bryan Hill* (Garrett Leskin) This Ohio native is thrilled to be working with such a talented cast and crew. National Tours include both Aladdin and Babes in Toyland. Favorite regional credits include Cosmo Brown in Singin in the Rain, Snoopy in ....Charlie Brown, Peter in Diary of Anne Frank, Lysander in A Midsummer Night’s Dream as well as roles in West Side Story, On the Town, A Christmas Carol, Once Upon a Mattress and Brighton Beach Memoirs. Singh Birdsong (Sez/Spirit of Grunge) is a New York based multi- instrumentalist. He has performed in Moscow, Belgium, Paris, London and elsewhere in England, Italy, Greece and all over the United States. Singh was born in Queens, raised on the Lower East Side, and attended school around downtown Manhattan. The eclectic beauty and energy of these parts of the city have had a palpable influence on his music.

It's official! BEASTIE BOYS' Ad Rock, Adam Horovitz will create the sound design to our 3rd installment in STRIPP3D, GLOUCESTER BLUE by Israel Horovitz. The festival features new and reintroduced works by emerging and established playwrights.

ANDREW MacLARTY (Tommy) is a New York based actor. He has most recently appeared in Theodora Skipitares' adaptation of LYSISTRATA at La MaMa, and TOMORROW'S SHORE, the HERE Arts Center, and is a regular ensemble member in the Gi60 international one minute play festival. As a teenager, Andrew performed at The United Nations in two fund raising relief benefit shows. Television credits include BOARDWALK EMPIRE.

Joe Pintauro's RAFT OF THE MEDUSA will kick off "Stripped," with previews starting October 6 prior to a press opening October 8 and running through October 22.

First presented in 1991 to considerable acclaim, RAFT OF THE MEDUSA has been revised by Mr. Pintauro for this production. Drawing on the Theodore Gericault 19th century painting of people clinging to a raft following a shipwreck, Pintauro's play takes place 10 years into the AIDS epidemic, centering on a weekly gathering of people living with AIDS.

MAIA SAGE ( Estelle / Felicia) is a drama major at LaGuardia Arts High School. Performances include: Israel Horovitz’s NEW SHORTS on Theatre Row, BUSTED by Danelle Eliav, Edna in THE GOOD TIMES ARE KILLING ME. She has trained at the Martha Graham Dance Company Teen Program, Dance Theatre Workshop, Studio Maestro and American Ballroom Theater. Maia was a featured dancer in Noémie LaFrance’s site-specific performance piece, AGORA II, in the McCarren Park pool in Greenpoint and has been a choreographer/soloist at: Jacob’s Pillow Dance, La Mama, Danspace, Chez Bushwick, Dance Theatre Workshop. Barefoot Theatre Company member since 2004.

GIL RON (Dr. Jerry Rizzo) A Member of the Barefoot Theatre Company since 2001 and a Member of El Repertorio Espanol since 2002. Last seen, as Julius Ceasar at the Secret Theatre. Barefoot Productions: DE DONDE?, DOES A TIGER WEAR A NECKTIE?, A MOTHERS LOVE, NORTH SHORE FISH, DIRTY TALK and DOG DAY AFTERNOON. Repertorio Productions: BLOOD WEDDING, THE FEAST OF THE GOAT, CHRONICLE OF A DEATH FORETOLD, O.K. and ANA IN THE TROPICS. Gil directed East 3rd Production’s NYC Premier of A BICYCLE COUNTRY, by Nilo Cruz. Gil is recipient of the HOLA, ACE, and OOBR awards. For Sammy Russo.

MICHAEL PIERRE LOUIS (Alan) received his BFA in Acting at Brooklyn College in 2011, he has also been seen in the film BENEATH THE ROCK by Eliana Ujueta and on stage in ACCIDENTS WAITING TO HAPPEN by Jonathan Libman. His credits also include, Tony in SAVAGE IN LIMBO, William in LOBBY HERO, and Kaden in AS BEES IN HONEY DROWN. Michael was also part of the Gone In 60 International play festival. This is his second collaboration with The Barefoot Theatre Company, and he could not be more excited to work with this group of talented, dedicated individuals. JOHN GAZZALE (Donald) most recently played Simon Bliss in a

SAMANTHA FONTANA (Cora) a native New Yorker, received her BFA in Acting from Brooklyn College and studied at the Lee Strasberg Institute of Theatre and Film. Samantha is a proud Company Member and Artistic Associate of the Barefoot Theatre Company and made her Off-Broadway debut performing as the Understudy in Barefoot's production of EMERGENCY USED CANDLES directed by Victoria Malvagno. She and Victoria wrote and workshopped THE VILLAGE ILIAD, a One Woman Show about growing up in the East Village at the Cherry Lane Theatre this past Spring. A revival in London, starred Jude Law and Paola di Ognisotti. Short plays: AMERICAN DIVINE, in Chicago and "MOVING TARGETS" New York City's Vineyard Theater, Metropolitan Operas, Milenium Group, NYC. have been compared to Jame's Joyce's THE DUBLINERS. THE DEAD BOY, about faith and trauma: work-shopped at London's Royal Court under Stephen Daldry and again there with Ian McKellan. Pintauro directed THE DEAD BOY in Dutch language in the Netherlands as: DODE JONGEN, with Anton Lutz and most recently with Roy Scheider and Mercedes Ruehl, again in workshop in Key West. His collection of some forty short plays called, METROPOLITAN OPERAS (Dramatists Play Service, NYC, are oproduced in various languages world wide including the Comedia del Arte in Venetia under Carla Poli. The trilogy BY THE SEA, BY THE SEA, BY THE BEAUTIFUL SEA, a collaboration with Terrence McNally and Lanford Wilson, was produced by The Bay Street Theatre and Manhattan Theatre Club. HEAVEN AND EARTH, about American Farm life, also a Bay Street production, was directed by Jack Hofsiss. Pintauro has recently completed BEAUTIFUL DREAMER, a Civil War screenplay about the only woman to ever receive the Congressional medal of Honor and is working on two new full length plays with The Pacific Theatre Company, in Los Angeles, KARMA BOOMERANG and DANCE NITE ON THE RIVER QUEEN. Joe studied poetry with Leonie Adams at Columbia University. He taught fiction writing at Sarah Lawrence and N.Y.U's Tisch, film making at Marymount College and The School of Visual Arts, N.Y. He taught playwriting at Southampton College. Pintauro was playwright for the 2003 Southampton Writers Conference. THE DEAD BOY was a selection of the Eugene O'Neill Playwrights Conference. "STATE OF GRACE." his novel was published by Times Books. His novel, COLD HANDS, Simon and Schuster, was widely reviewed and singled out by the New York Times as one of the best novels of the year. Pintauro has studied cinematography under George Stoney, NYU, has a B.B.A. from Manhattan College, a B.A. in Philosophy from St. Jerome's College, Kitchener, Ontario and four full time years of Theology at Our Lady of Angels Seminary, Niagara University. He was recently awarded the Margaret Hill inaugural chair in theatre at Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame and was named recipient of the 2005 John Steinbeck literary award.

GILLIAN ROUGIER (Nairobi) is pleased to be a part of Barefoot’s fall 2011 season! She last worked with the company doing a reading of BALM IN GILEAD at the Cherry Lane Theatre. She holds a BFA in Acting from Brooklyn College (CUNY.) She was born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago. This summer marks her 10-year anniversary of being in the United States. FRANCISCO SOLORZANO (Director) is a Director, Actor, Producer. Most notably directed and adapted the Off –Broadway, stage adaptation of DOG DAY AFTERNOON as well as collaborating with award winning playwright, Israel Horovitz on many of his plays including some world premieres. Also directed the Award Winning, DE DONDE?. Executive producer of the 70/70 HOROVITZ PROJECT (a worldwide, year-long festival celebrating Israel Horovitz's 70th Birthday with 70 of his plays.) Co-Founder of BAREFOOT STUDIO PICTURES with Christopher Whalen (several projects in the works). BFA: CUNY'S Brooklyn College; a founder and Producing Artistic Director of the Barefoot Theatre Company since 1999. Recipient of the 2009 Graduate Theater Organization of Brooklyn College, CUNY's Alumnus of the Year Award. Currently splits his time between Brooklyn New York and Hollywood, California. For my family, friends, the cast and Nicole Haran, who taught me so much about perseverance and directing with love first and foremost.

MORGAN EISEN (Production Stage Manager) was born and raised in New York City. She is finishing her degree at Brooklyn College, where she will receive her BA in Theater with a focus in Stage Management. She has Stage Managed several Brooklyn College productions including AUTOBAHN, NOCTURNAL, FLYIN' WEST, THE THUGS, and TI JEANS AND HIS BROTHERS. Morgan has had the privilege of being a founding member of Pangaea Performance Ensemble, and worked at Theaterlab where she managed THREE SISTERS COME AND GO, as well as ALL THE WINDOWS ON ALCATRAZ WITH WHISKEY REBELLION. She is very happy to be making her Barefoot Theatre debut with RAFT OF THE MEDUSA.

MINNA TAYLOR (Assistant Stage Manager) is very excited to be participating with Barefoot on this production. She has a BFA from NYU Tisch with The Atlantic Theater Company and an MFA from Brooklyn College. She produces a series of comedy short films with company member Samantha Fontana. NILUKA HOTALING (Lighting Design) works as a free lance Set and Lighting Designer. She has recently designed shows for Henry Street Settlement Abrons Art center, Arts Connection, Artis Smith Dance Troupe; Barefoot Theatre; Four Chairs Theatre Company; Sackett Group; The New School; Brooklyn Children’s Theatre, Brooklyn College; shows that appeared in The NY Fringe Festival, newfangled theatReR- where she is a founding member, and resident set designer. She has also lent her services as stage manager, scenic charge, carpenter and stage technician to such institutions as Lincoln center Institute, Brooklyn Center for the Performing arts, Daryl Roth Theatre and Spiegel LP. Niluka currently teaches for the Theatre department at Brooklyn College where she received her MFA in Design and Technical Production in 2003. She is a recipient of an Individual Artists Grant from NYSCA in 2005 for her design work at Henry Street and is a member of United Scenic Artists Local 829 in the set design category.

MICHAEL MALLARD (Set Design) received his MFA in Theater from the National Theater Conservatory in Denver, Co., and BFA from Texas State University. While his studies have focused mainly on acting, Michael has always been involved with the design aspect of performance. It is his understanding of the actor that influences his design process: leading him to create a practical world in which the actor, director, and script blend together into story. Michael’s design credits include SECOND by Neil Utterback at Roy Arias Studios, A BICYCLE COUNTRY by Nilo Cruz at Theater Row, and STRANGE SNOW by Stephen Metcalfe for East 3rd Productions. Michael is currently the Creative Director for East 3rd Productions, and has a budding photography business. Michael is thrilled to have the opportunity to collaborate with the Barefoot Theatre Company and be the Production Designer for the play festival, STRIPP3D, at the Cherry Lane Theatre.

JOHN BEVERLY (Sound & Projection Design) has been designing for the Barefoot Theatre Company since its inception back in 1999.

VICTORIA MALVAGNO (Costume Design) Actor, Director and Teacher. She designed Costumes with Barefoot Theatre Company for over ten years including: Off-Broadway: TEETH OF THE SONS, 45th Anniversary Revival of Lanford Wilson's BALM IN GILEAD, World Premiere of SINS OF THE MOTHER, NEW SHORTS, BEIRUT ROCKS, all by Israel Horovitz including the Indie hit, LOVE SIMPLE (HBO Latino Film Festival; Feel Good Film Festival, CA). Victoria is also an Educational Liaison and teaching artist for The American Ballroom Theater. Her work with ABrT's Dancing Classrooms program can be seen in the award winning documentary MAD HOT BALLROOM. She is a founder and currently the Managing Director of the Barefoot Theatre Company since 1999. For my beautiful mother, Aldina.

RICARDO RIETHMULLER (Co-Producer) is a director, performer, and producer. He is a graduate of the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University and a founding member of East 3rd Productions. In 2011 he finished Brooklyn College with a B.F.A. in Acting. Since then Eric performed in his first Off-Broadway production of REEFER MADNESS at the Roy Arias Theater. He also participated in the Figment Festival on Governors Island in a movement piece entitled BEAST. Also he had the opportunity to lead a short film FAMILY this summer. More than 2 million children are living with HIV/AIDS, according to 2008 figures. 'Cheerful Insanity,' Here Arts Center - Review

Romantic and sexual trauma pervade "Cheerful Insanity: Chao and Katzberg in Repertory," two plays of contrasting sensibilities at the Here Arts Center. Each barely an hour and running on different dates, they are both confessional in nature and intriguing.

The more linear is Tom X. Chao's droll, ruminative and sometimes arch "Callous Cad." Mr. Chao, playing himself, is agonizing over an affair. His friends on a video screen (a married seducer, a randy couple trumpeting their relationship) are not helping. Offering enlightenment is a Magical Being (the delightful Charlotte Pines of "Play Dead" as the spirit of love) and her Magical Assistant (Amy Virginia Buchanan). Ms. Pines's irrepressible sprite is an enchanting foil to Mr. Chao's petulant and tearful neurotic.

Kim Katzberg's one-woman "Penetrating the Space" is a fractured gallery of personalities coming at you with such velocity that their words demand close attention. Her principal character is Jinny Jikkyl, a wide-eyed, high-strung actress wrestling with insecurity, lack of an agent and an incestuous past. Her support network, if you can call it that, includes a butch lighting designer who worships her and a dissipated former stripper giving glib advice at a suicide prevention hot line (Ms. Katzberg in drag queen mode).

At one point Jinny alludes to her father's sexual assault; at another she dons a teeth-baring wolf mask; at yet another she lasciviously mounts a stuffed purple horse. Animated segments by Maia Cruz Palileo underscore Jinny's dissociation. But for all its aggression and jagged textures, "Penetrating the Space" has a glowing, vulnerable, haunting center.

John Harlacher, who directed both shows, and Josh Iacovelli, on lights, display range and invention with minimal means.

Opens 9-week Stripped Festival Off-Bway at Cherry Lane Theatre in Greenwich Village

Performances of Pintauro's acclaimed 1991 play set for Oct. 6-22

A revised version of Joe Pintauro's 1991 play RAFT OF THE MEDUSA, being produced Off-Broadway this fall by the Barefoot Theatre Company, will kick off the 9-week Stripped Festival this fall with performances

October 6 to 22 at Cherry Lane Studio Theatre (38 Commerce St.) in Greenwich Village.

RAFT OF THE MEDUSA previews October 6 with an official press opening set for October 8. The run concludes October 22.

First presented in 1991 to considerable acclaim, RAFT OF THE MEDUSA has been revised by Mr. Pintauro for this production. Drawing on the Theodore Gericault 19th century painting of people clinging to a raft following a shipwreck, Pintauro's play takes place 10 years into the AIDS epidemic, centering on a weekly gathering of people living with AIDS.

Directed by Francisco Solorzano, the cast of RAFT OF THE MEDUSA features Jeremy Brena, John Gazzale, Charles Everett, Samantha Fontana, Mark G. Cisneros, Gil Ron, Maia Sage, Christopher Whalen, along with Michael Pierre Louis, Gillian Rougier and Andrew MacLarty.

Costume design is by Victoria Malvagno; lighting design by Niluka Hotaling; set design by Michael Mallard; sound design is by John Beverly; and graphic design is by ADZN, Adam Dalton.

Francisco Solorzano has directed SAVAGE/LOVE for Looking Glass Theater, the world premiere of the stage adaptation of DOG DAY AFTERNOON, Israel Horovitz's BEIRUT ROCKS as well as Horovitz's 6 HOTELS.

"Stripped" is billed as a festival of plays about "sex, murder, revenge...and sex." It is presented by Barefoot Theatre Company in association with East 3rd Productions.

Now in its 13th season, BAREFOOT THEATRE COMPANY's recent productions Off- Broadway include the premieres of EMERGENCY USED CANDLES, TEETH OF THE SONS, a stage adaptation of the film DOG DAY AFTERNOON, the 35th anniversary of Israel Horovitz's THE INDIAN WANTS THE BRONX, as well as the 70/70 HOROVITZ PROJECT, a yearlong worldwide festival that feature 70 of Horovitz's plays on the occasion of his 70th birthday.

East 3rd Productions' theatrical works include Zack Calhoon's THE WEIRD SISTERS, Nilo Cruz's A BICYCLE COUNTRY, STRANGE SNOW by Stephen Metcalfe, 70/70 HOROVITZ PROJECT, and the ENTER PLAYWRIGHT THEATER FESTIVAL. CHECK OUT the reviews from the LONDON VERSION which is the text we will be presenting in less than two weeks at the legendary, CHERRY LANE THEATRE (part of our festival STRIPP3D, in collaboration with East 3rd Productions).

The excitement of "RAFT" is that you never know where it will go next. It achieves extraordinary highs and lows. Following it, I both laughed and cried several times. Several aspects resemble Tony Kushner's "Angels in America," which came after "Raft", but Pintauro's dramaturgy is less schematic and his writing more sensitive to human feeling in all its peaks and troughs. The issues become unusually gripping here because Pintauro's stage world is persuasive. It is the finest AIDS drama I have seen. ALISTAIR MACAULAY, THE TIMES, LONDON.

PAUL TAYLOR, THE INDEPENDENT, LONDON:

The Gericault-derived title is high-toned but can't disguise the fact that, for the best of reasons, Pintauro has assembled a group of characters that have the cross-sectional feel of a disaster movie cast. Valuably reminding you that Aids is not a gay disease, the participants include a hearing-and-speech-impaired drug-addicted black woman (Natasha Williams), a married straight man who doesn't know whether he picked up the virus from an infected needle or from being gang-banged in prison, and a respectable middle-aged, middle- class woman Cora (Lolly Susi), who, thanks to her experiences, is not best disposed to bisexual or homosexual men in general.

Part Two of Angels in America, Tony Kushner's "Gay Fantasia on National Themes" turned on the topic of forgiveness in the age of Aids. It asked you to imagine that a black gay male nurse had been assigned the job of caring for the terminally ill Roy Cohn, the one-time McCarthy sidekick and virulently racist, self-hating homosexual homophobe. To feel a carer's compassion for this figure would, in the circumstances, put forgiveness to a stiff test.

The theme recurs in The Raft of the Medusa, the play which comprises the second half of Joe Pintauro's double-bill Salvation, which is given a wonderfully powerful English premiere by the London Gay Theatre Company at the Gate. Here, though, the question of forgiveness is angled even more uncomfortably. Donald has just died of Aids; his lover Michael married and monogamous before he met Donald, has contracted the virus from him. Donald's unforgiven ghost haunts the group therapy session for people with HIV which Michael attends and which Pintauro presents to us in all its heart-wrenching, recrimination-ridden, and blackly comical emotional messiness.

It's an irony that the Coras of this world who would benefit from seeing The Raft of the Medusa would also be unlikely to attend a play like Raft. This is a shame because Raft would touch all kinds of people. There are bits that feel too conventionally plotty, but the untidy interaction between the characters' prejudice-triggering differences and the heightened fellow-feelings fostered by their shared status is the basis for a bracingly unpious drama.

Like the sketches that comprise the first half of the evening, Raft does not reach for facilely consoling answers. "What do you want?" the unforgiven ghost asks his infected lover. "My life back," comes the reply. Blame is thrown around in the play but, though it understands the urge to look back in bitterness, Raft suggests there are more creative ways to use the time left you.

Pintauro preaches positivism but not dumb optimism, realism rather than fatalism: and he affirms and celebrates love amid the acerbic banter. Randall Colburn’s plays have been produced or developed at such theaters as the Alliance, the Public, Victory Gardens, CityLit, InFusion, Brain Surgeon Theater, Stage Left, and The Right Brain Project, who dedicated their 2010 season to his work. He is the recipient of a 2010 Individual Artist Grant from the Illinois Arts Council, as well as playwriting fellowships from Dad’s Garage Theatre and the Eugene O’Neill Playwrights Conference. His play Lamp & Moth was a finalist for the 2011 O’Neill National Playwrights Conference, the Alliance’s 2009 Kendeda Graduate Playwright Competition and the 2009 New York Summer Play Fest, and his short play Ravishment was part of the Northwest Playwrights Alliance’s 2008 British Arts Tour. He has been commissioned by Writers’ Theatre and InFusion Theatre and is an artistic associate with Brain Surgeon Theater. This spring he premiered his play Verse Chorus Verse with Tympanic Theater after developing the play at the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs’ Incubator Series, and will be developing his play Blessed Assurance in a residency at Stage Left Theater. His play Hesperia is slated for production at Writers’ Theatre next winter. He is a resident playwright at Chicago Dramatists, and was recently named by the Chicago Reader as “One to Watch.” A bad movie scholar, Randall was also featured in the hit documentary, Best Worst Movie. He received his MFA in Playwriting from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.

SNOW ORCHID, his first full length. became a selection of the Eugene O'Neill Conference and later with Olympia Dukakis, Peter Boyle and Robert Lupone at Circle Rep. A revival in London, starred Jude Law and Paola di Ognisotti. Short plays: AMERICAN DIVINE, in Chicago and "MOVING TARGETS" New York City's Vineyard Theater, Metropolitan Operas, Milenium Group, NYC. have been compared to Jame's Joyce's THE DUBLINERS. Full length plays: BESIDE HERSELF, with William Hurt, Lois Smith, Calista Flockhart and Melissa Joan Hart. RAFT OF THE MEDUSA: Minetta Lane and London's Gate Nottinghill (SALVATION). MEN'S LIVES, an adaptation of Mattheissen's non fiction book, was the innaugural production of the Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor. The trilogy BY THE SEA, BY THE SEA, BY THE BEAUTIFUL SEA, a collaboration with Terrence McNally and Lanford Wilson, was produced by The Bay Street Theatre and Manhattan Theatre Club. HEAVEN AND EARTH, about American Farm life, also a Bay Street production, was directed by Jack Hofsiss. Pintauro has recently completed BEAUTIFUL DREAMER, a Civil War screenplay about the only woman to ever receive the Congressional medal of Honor and is working on two new full length plays with The Pacific Theatre Company, in Los Angeles, KARMA BOOMERANG and DANCE NITE ON THE RIVER QUEEN.
East 3rd, A Brief History

East 3rd Productions was founded in the Fall of 2008 by Ricardo Riethmuller and Charles Alexander Khaikin. Their mission was to create an acting/producing company for theater and film and to be a platform for visual artists. The work that would be created would adhered along social, political, and economical themes and would be in collaboration with other artistic groups and/or individuals. Since its inception, East 3^rd Productions has produced four main-stage plays, a workshop presentation of an original musical by Harvard alumna Zoe Sarnak, a marathon festival honoring the work of American playwright Israel Horovitz with Barefoot Theatre Company, a photography division, and an award winning film titled Tapeworm. Following the company motto “facilitating art anytime, anywhere, any way” East 3^rd Productions, among its producing work, has also provided space, time, and resources for artists to research and cultivate their work.

East 3^rd Productions theatrical work includes The Weird Sisters by Zack Calhoon, A Bicycle Country by Nilo Cruz, Mary Esther by Christopher Petit and Nick Zagone, A Lasting Impression music and lyrics by Zoe Sarnak, Strange Snow by Stephen Metcalfe, 70/70 Horovitz Project: Horovitz Marathon a festival honoring playwright Israel Horovtiz, and the Enter Playwright Theater Festival. The company has also produced the short film Tapeworm, which won awards for best short film and best actor in a short film at the Gotham Screen International Film Festival. This past Spring, East 3rd Productions launched their photography division called East 3^rd Visual. The company forever searches out work that speaks to its mission statement of cultivating artists across political, social and economical lines. 12th Season Review - FINAL ENTRY, 2011

Before we prepared to take the summer off and begin work on our 2011-2012 Season we managed to produce one of our most exciting presentations. In collaboration with The Cherry Lane Theatre we produced and c0-presented Israel Horovitz's SINS OF THE MOTHER reading. The reading was part of Cherry Lane Theatre's reading series, TONGUES. the reading was directed by our very own playwright and Advisory Board Member, Israel Horovitz. The cast included Academy Award winner, Chris Cooper, Ethan Hawke, Michael Stuhlbarg and Barefoot Theatre Company Ensemble Member, Francisco Solorzano with stage directions by Frances Uku.

We were beyond thrilled to have Chris Cooper (American Beauty, Adaptation - for which he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor) join us this time around. All three, Ethan Hawke (Training Day, Reality Bites, Dead Poets Society), Michael Stuhlbarg (A Serious Man, Boardwalk Empire, The Grey Zone), and Francisco Solorzano have been part of the development and presentations of Horovitz's full length comic-drama.

The reading on Monday, May 2nd played to a packed house in the beautiful Mainstage at The Cherry Lane Theatre. Special thanks to the staff and crew at CLT and especially Founder/Artistic Director, Angelina Fiordellisi.

Barefoot Theatre Company presented a staged reading of the play as part of the opening of 70/70 Horovitz Project (a worldwide, year-long festival celebrating Israel Horovitz' 70th Birthday with readings and productions of 70 of his plays). The reading was directed by Jo Bonney and took place at 45 Bleecker Street Theatre with Bobby Cannavale, John Doman, Michael Stuhlbarg and Francisco Solorzano. Since its developments, workshops and readings the play has gone on to be produced across the United States including Olympia,WA; Manalapan, FL and Gloucester, MA (Harlequin Stages; Florida Stage; and Gloucester Stage Company). We look forward to seeing more of Horovitz' latest work in the near future.

Ensemble Members featured in New Monthly Theatre Event

Barefoot ensemble member and playwright Stephen Gracia and founding member, Michael LoPorto's monthly theatre event, Dialogue with Three Chords continues August 25th with Absolute Beginners.

"Two brothers bear witness to the end of a bloody family tradition as their neighborhood quickly becomes unrecognizable."

This new play by Stephen Gracia is set in the Hell's Kitchen of 1983. The Westies are falling apart, gentrification is coming on quick, and there's a dead body in the bathtub that someone needs to atone for.

D3C features new plays written by Gracia and directed by LoPorto the fourth Thursday of every month at Mr. Dennehy's Irish Pub at 63 Carmine Street, NYC. They will be staged readings with live music, a talk back, poetry readings, and more.

Start time: 8pm.

D3C is free with a suggested donation of $3.

Absolute Beginners features Barefoot ensemble member Charles Everett. The cast also includes Sean Meehan, Jennifer Skura, Matthew Ferretti, and Carol LoPorto.

So following an incredibly exciting and definitely busy Winter...we presented a SPRING BASHthat featured a BEAT BOXIN CONTEST as well as LIVE MUSIC by Ensemble Member, Aidan Koehler! The evening also featured the Cast and Crew of our Spring Production, Teeth Of The Sons by Joseph Sousa and directed by Nicole Haran.

with the party going all night with Ensemble Member, LYNN COHEN dancing the night away!! Special thanks to ALL who attended and enjoyed our SPRING BASH!

So what does one do after a night of celebratio?!

We GET BACK TO WORK or PLAY in our case. Rehearsals began for our Spring Production that was being directed and led by our very own, Co-Founder / Co-Artistic Director, Nicole Haran. The production opened to a weekend of sold-out seats and rave reviews. Once again we gathered at A.O.C. on Bleecker for a night or Opening Night fun!!!

During one of our Dark Nights, in honor of Lanford Wilson who recently passed away, we held a FREE Reading of BALM IN GILEAD featuring Barefoot Theatre Company Ensemble and special guests. The FREE event took place at The Studio Theatre at the legendary Cherry Lane Theatre. Barefoot Theatre Company has been fortunate to work on and present full productions of Lanford Wilson's HOME FREE! and BALM IN GILEAD.

Closing up our 12th Anniversary Season, we developed and presented our BASEMENT WORKSHOP SERIES which involves a staged reading presentation of a work in progress; featuring LIVE MUSIC and FREE DRINKS. The new works get rehearsed for at least one work and make use of sound, set, costumes and props to help better visualize the text in its process of development. The two works we presented were also featured in our bareNaked Reading Series (now presented FREE to audiences) and our DIRECTOR'S LAB (ensemble members only development process). First we presented Samantha Fontana's solo piece, VILLAGE ILIAD directed by Victoria Malvagno and Tim Plaehn's WEST ASHEVILLE directed by Nicole Haran.

The closing of our season with the BASEMENT WORKSHOP SERIES was one that we'll definitely remember. We had a full house and had to, unfortunately, turn some audience members away at the door. It was an excellent evening that once again featured the LIVE MUSIC of our very own Aidan Koehler.

SPECIAL THANKS TO THE STAFF AND CREW OF THE CHERRY LANE THEATRE for an EXCITING SEASON!!! And to YOU, our audiences, members, friends, and families.

This past Winter JAN/FEB we dedicated some time to bridging the gap between the theater community on the East and West Coast. Taking up residency at the Art of Acting Studio in Los Angeles, California, NYC's Barefoot Theatre Company presented the Inaugural West Coast presentation of the bareNaked Reading Series (no sets, no props, just words). Following our Fall Production directed by Victoria Malvagno at The Cherry Lane Theatre in rep with our 2nd Annual bareNaked Reading Series during the dark nights we took another moment to CELEBRATE the Upcoming Winter Holidays!

Central Bar located on East 9th Street hosted our 2010 Holiday Party with some incredible music, friends, family and drinks!!! We had an incredible time all around. Our partying went on into the night as we began preproduction and rehearsals for our first ever HOLIDAY FREE READING EVENT.

On Wednesday, December 22nd, The Players Foundation hosted our Free Reading of Israel Horovitz' stage adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic, A Christmas Carol: Scrooge & Marley. Audiences were treated to Free Eggnog and Cider.

We were extremely lucky to gather at the gorgeous, legendary PLAYERS CLUB in Gramercy Park.

The event was directed by Producing Artistic Director, Francisco Solorzano and featured: Jeremy Brena, Therese Plaehn, Dan Graff, Samantha Fontana, Betty Hudson, John Harlacher, Steven R.
